About

Both as an orchestral musician and an avid performer of contemporary music, saxophonist Amy Schumacher is making a name for herself in multiple arenas of the musical world.

She has performed in the annual Focus! Concert Series with the New Juillard Ensemble, and is regularly engaged with the contemporary ensemble TACTUS. Amy has also performed in the Bang on a Can Marathon as part of New York’s River-to-River Festival.

An active champion of 20th-century music, Miss Schumacher regularly collaborates with up-and-coming composers, promoting new works for the saxophone. She has premiered works with the Yale composers’ group, IGIGI and performs frequently in Manhattan Composers’ Concerts. She is a member of the contemporary ensemble Music =, an organization dedicated to presenting new and lesser known works in venues throughout New York City. With a particular interest in expanding the tenor saxophone repertoire, Amy has performed many unknown works by composers such as Eric Ewazen, Lawson Lunde, and Gerald Busby.

Miss Schumacher holds her Master’s degree in saxophone performance from the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Dr. Paul Cohen. She also holds her degree in Music Education from Syracuse University. During the daylight hours you will find her in the South Bronx, teaching music to children with autism.
